On a hot morning in 1849 when it was the
GOLD RUSH in California fever Chewi
was a gold nugget in California. I am
Chewi. I taste gross you
probably do not want to eat me.
One day I
saw a man walking. He did not see
me. He went past me. At night I felt sad because nobody took me to their house, so I went to sleep. In the morning I heard a horse coming toward me, so I wrote my name on myself. When the man saw my name he took me, then he read my name, “Chewi!" Then I showed him that I
could talk so he put me in his chest. I asked, “Where are
you taking me?"
He said
“Just go to sleep,” so I went to sleep.
When I woke up I was in something soft. I got off and
walked to try to find the man.
When he saw me he said, “Good
morning!” I said, “Good morning”
back.
When his children saw that I could play and talk they were so happy. One day the
children were waking early to play with me.
The next
day I told the man that felt good.
I asked, “What is your name?”
“Jack!”
Jack had
fun with Chewi. We were like best
friends. When Jack's son had a birthday he said, “When I almost die I will give Gold Chewi to you!” The son was so happy that he would get Chewi to be his best friend after
his father died. The children washed me and took a bath for a feast.
I said to
myself, “I smell good”.
